This week in 4A:
Spalding Information Night
Our
Phonics Consultant, Margie Clouse, will conduct a workshop to help parents
learn The Spalding Method, the phonics program used at Archway Lincoln. This session is aimed primarily at parents
who are new to the school.
Learn
specific handwriting instruction and coaching skills for phonograms. Emphasis
will be on manuscript writing, pencil and paper positions, and instructions for
homework procedures. A cursive model
will be available.
Learn
reasons for markings and rules used in The Spalding Method by actively applying
analysis to Ayres List of Vocabulary Words.
The session will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the
Archway Lincoln cafeteria.

Volunteers needed:
We are
starting our literature groups and Mrs. Stephenson has set up a Sign Up Genius
account for our parents to volunteer for a day to lead a group. The link is on
the upper left margin of the blog. The literature group is on Thursdays from
2:10-2:45 and is a time where a parent takes a group of about 6-8 students and
listens to them read the chapter and asks comprehension questions along the
way. If you are interested, please sign up. If you have questions, please email
me.
This week:
Assessments
in Math on Thursday and Geology (earthquakes and tsunamis) on Friday.
Please make sure you are checking agendas each night. I will
put in missing assignments for you to check. It is important to turn in all
assignments even if they are late. A “1” is better than a “0”.
Your child has been and will continue to get returned
assignments that have been graded (should be in their take-home folder), please
look these over and discuss what, if anything, needs to be corrected. Mrs. Ryan
and I put comments on papers we have graded, please have your child learn from
them and make sure any questions for understanding and/or clarification get
asked.
If your child gets a
“C” or below on anything, I would like them to correct it for understanding and
turn it back in the next day (asking any questions in the process). When this
is completed they can gain back some points.
Thank You!
