Dear 4A Parents,

I hope you had a restful break. It was a good time with friends and family for me.

Important Date:
Mandatory Choral Concert- Thursday, April 27th,
  • K-2nd Grade - 5:30-6:15 PM
  • 3rd-5th Grade - 6:30-7:30 PM
We have AIMS Science test on Tuesday, April 4th, AZ Merit Writing on April 11th, AZ Merit Reading and Math on April 21st and 24th.

Academics:

We have started Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. I'm looking forward to reading about this important person in our history with our class.

We are finishing up our unit in Geometry and will have the final test on Monday.

In History, we have begun our American Revolution unit. Within the next couple of weeks, we will introduce our research project for the quarter. The students will be given a historical figure from the Revolutionary period to research. Once their figure has been chosen, the students will begin the process of writing a five paragraph essay. The essay will be almost completely written in the classroom, with the exception of typing the final draft. Then, the students will create a souvenir for each of their classmates and prepare a short presentation. After the students have been assigned a figure, more details will follow.

In Science, we are preparing for the AIMS test (April 4th) by reviewing the various topics the students can expect to see on the test. So far, we have been having a lot of fun going through the review packets and collaborating on our answers.

  • On a final note, we had an important and enriching discussion in our classroom on Monday about the school virtues and respect. Please read the letter below the 4th grade has prepared:

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable spring break. It is hard to believe we have already reached the fourth quarter; the end of the school year is rapidly approaching! Sometimes nearing a finish line diverts focus away from the purpose of running the race. As we begin our final quarter together, it is important that we take some time discussing the virtues of our school. As you all know, in spite of our rigorous curriculum, there is a reason we call ourselves ‘Great Hearts’ and not ‘Great Minds’. We take great pride in the role we have in developing a child’s heart, in addition to their minds.

As a method of reinforcing the virtues, we will shine a spotlight on the way we speak and treat each other. On Monday, we had a Socratic discussion about the importance of showing respect to one another and different ways we can demonstrate that respect. I encourage you to ask your child about our discussion and new classroom/school procedures. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your support as we strive to end the school year on a strong, positive note!

You guys have great children and I'm so glad I get to be a part of their lives. Thanks for sharing them with me!
Mrs. Gore

  • Friday will be an early release day so please make arrangements to pick up your child by 12:40.
  • Spring Break - March 20-24

**Please read this following information from our music teacher, Ms. Blasi:

Our Spring Music Concert is fast approaching. Please save the date!

Thursday, April 27th

K-2nd Grade - 5:30-6:15 PM
3rd-5th Grade - 6:30-7:30 PM

Both concerts will be held in the Lincoln Gym. Your student brought home a letter with important information on concert details and concert attire. This letter can also be found on my blog.

At the concert this April, we will be doing an eye glass drive in partnership with the Chandler Chapter of the Lion's Club. We will be collecting used eye glasses for those in need. Please start looking for old eye glasses you have around the house that you might want to donate. The eye glasses can be for both children and adults. A flyer with more information on this outreach opportunity will be going home with students before Spring Break.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions you have! I look forward to seeing you at our Spring Concert!

Dear 4A Parents:

Our only important date is Friday, March 17th. That will be an early release day and the last day before Spring Break. School will resume again for the 4th quarter on Monday, March 27th.

We finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz on Friday. The next 2 weeks we will have mini units on short stories, plays and poetry. We will begin our next book, Carry On, Mr. Bowditch, when we get back from Spring Break. Please make sure your child has the same book that is pictured in the margin by the end of the break.

We will be finishing up Meteorology this week and having our final test on the last week before break. This will be the same in AZ history, too.

We started our geometry unit in math which will continue into the next quarter.

Thank you for all the tissues : )

Enjoy your week,
Mrs. Gore
