Headmaster Coffee, Feb. 7
On Tuesday, February 7 at 8:15 am, Mr. Kuhlman will host a headmaster coffee in the Archway multi-purpose room. During this headmaster coffee, he will provide an update, and answer any questions regarding our upcoming expansion to a 4-section K-5 school during the upcoming school year.
Great Hearts Day, Feb. 10
At Archway Lincoln, we will not celebrate Valentine’s Day as it is traditionally celebrated in schools, but will instead celebrate Great Hearts Day on Friday, February 10th.  Our class will have a short celebration, the focus of which is on friendship and kind-heartedness, not gifts and candy.

Our classroom liaison and I will plan a celebration during which the students will enjoy activities that recognize what it means to be a good friend. Our hope is that each child is celebrated for the ways in which he or she demonstrates Friendship in our classroom and community.

Please remember that students are not to bring in any Valentine’s cards or treats for their classmates. We will take care of showing our appreciation for our friends during our party. If any student brings in Valentines or candy, we will need to put them in the backpack to be returned home.

Thank you for your consideration of this special day and the establishment of traditions here at Archway Lincoln!

We will not have any celebrations on February 14th, but we will have an opera come and perform on that day!

Academics:

In Literature, we will continue to be reading the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

We will have a Math Test this week. Day of the test depends upon which class your student is in.

In science, we will study the layers of the atmosphere.

In history, students will be completing a brochure for Arizona, highlighting the natural beauty of the state in hopes of convincing others to come visit the state. Students should highlight national parks, national monuments, state parks, or other unique attractions of the state in their brochure. Students may also highlight the native wildlife and plant life. Students should cite either their "Do Arizona" binders, other books checked out from the school/local library or reputable resources on the Internet. We recommend parents assist students in determining which websites are appropriate or reliable. The 6-panel brochure will be due next week Monday 2/6, and they will have Wednesday-Friday to work on the project during class time.

Please take a look in your child's Take-Home Folder. They have gotten back a lot of graded papers and I want to make sure you are seeing them : )

Have a great week!
Mrs. Gore

We continue learning decimals. This week we'll focus on thousandths and ordering, rounding, and putting them into fractions.

We had another week with all homework turned in!!

I added the link to our library's online catalog in the right hand margin. We go to our library during Lyceum on Mondays. Since we only have 20 minutes there, it would be ideal if your student can look for a book in the catalog before coming to school, so he/she will know what they want to check out when they get to the library.

We can use tissues, we started to run low on them last week and are down to our last box. Donations are much appreciated : )

As always Thank you for the privilege of teaching your children,
Mrs. Gore

Archway Lincoln Library
Our students are excited to check out books from our library. Our class attended a special orientation in the library today and learned how to locate and check out books. Students may search our library catalog at home so they are aware of a book that they would like to check out when they arrive at the library.  Each class has a weekly scheduled time to visit our library. To search our library from home, go to: https://archwaylincoln.follettdestiny.com/
Our library time is on Mondays from 2:50-3:10. Each Friday the students need to bring back their books to be checked in so on Monday they can check out another one.
Please have your child bring in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tomorrow. About half the class did not have theirs today. Make sure it has the same cover that is shown in the left-hand margin of this blog.
Academics: We started Meteorology today. We are going to do a mini unit on Islam before we start on Arizona history, in history. We are continuing with decimals in math and prepositions in grammar. The only test this week will be in Spalding : )
Thank you for those who brought in tissues. We can use more, as well as, hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes.
I hope you have a good week,
Mrs. Gore

Dear 4A,

I hope everyone had a good holiday season. My house was full with all my children which includes a future daughter-in-law : ) I was also able to visit my mom in Virginia for a week. So, all in all, my break was really good.

As we gear up for a new quarter, there are a few things to keep in mind. First there are parent/teacher conferences tomorrow and Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you there. The students are only in school on Thursday and Friday this week and most of that will be taken up with "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" recitations. We will begin reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz on Monday, January 9th, so please have a copy of it for your student. (The correct book cover is in the left margin.)

This quarter we will be studying meteorology in science, decimals in math, and Arizona in history. We will go to the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) on February 17th and hear parts of an opera on Great Hearts Day (February 14th). Our class picture day is January 20th.

On February 9th, we will start to go to our school library as a class. Each Monday, the students will be able to check out books from there. They will even be able to peruse the titles online at home.

With cold and flu season coming up, we could use donations of  tissue boxes, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial wipes.

I'm looking forward to this next quarter. As always, thank you for entrusting your child with me, it is a blessing to be their teacher!
