IMPORTANT DATES: Our Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 2 from 6:30-8pm. This date is for 3rd through 5th grade. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade Curriculum Night will be Thursday, August 27 from 6:30-8pm. All ESS and Specials Teachers will be at both nights as well.

The class seems to be getting the routine down for Spalding. Practicing at home will really aid in their comprehension. I hope to get a set of phonogram cards to everyone early this week. When everyone has them I will have the students write in their agenda to review them at home. If you already have them please review them nightly with your child. We have learned 1-54 and will continue with those this week.

In Language Arts, we are studying plural and proper nouns and will begin making summaries and taking dictation this week.

We will be practicing rounding and estimation in math. Word problems are incorporated into many lessons, so they are learning the model method as a strategy.

We are continuing in meteorology with humidity, atmosphere, air pressure and density. While in geography, we are learning to find places using latitude and longitude and how to understand time zones. Soon we will begin our study of mountains.

We’ve read the first three chapters of Wizard of Oz and the students and I are enjoying it. We will pick up the pace this week. There will be an assessment of Chapters 1-7 on Wednesday.

I will collect the Reading Log tomorrow (Monday). I’m going to make it so it’s due on Friday instead of Monday, so this week will only have Mon-Thurs.

You can communicate with me via email or the “take home” folder. Just put your note on the “complete and return” side and I will see it. I will try to get back to you within 24 hours. Please clear out the “keep at home” side each day and check and sign the agenda everyday as well!

We have 2 openings in our class for a liaison. This is a volunteer who would help coordinate activities, reading groups, etc. If you are interested please email me. Thank you!

I have enjoyed getting to know your children. They are an inquisitive and lively group. I’m excited about what we will all learn over the next school year.

IMPORTANT DATES: Our Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 2 from 6:30-8pm. This date is for grades 3-5. The K-2 Curriculum Night will be Thursday, August 27 from 6:30-8pm. All ESS and Specials Teachers will be at both nights as well.

This week we mainly went over procedures, the academics were minimal. We took assessments in spelling and math and I got a feel for where they are in grammar and how well they write.

We will begin each subject in earnest this week. In Spalding we will practice phonograms 1-54 (You should have a set of these cards which stays at home). We will continue to practice manuscript so that we can move on to cursive in the future. It is very important that they write legibly in manuscript, for the development of cursive. Reading comprehension can be improved by a child’s knowledge of proper letter formation.

In our history curriculum, we begin with map skills and in science we begin with meteorology. We talked about categorizing and we’ll continue this week with cloud identification.

We will begin reading the Wizard of Oz this week so if your child’s book is at home, please have them bring it. If you have ordered the book but it has not arrived yet, please don’t worry, they will share with their partners. If you have not ordered it, please do so ASAP. This book will stay at school while we are doing this unit.

If you ordered phonogram cards, they are in the office and I will pick them up for your child so that they can make it home to you. If you have not yet ordered them please do so ASAP. (The office can tell you if you are not sure if you ordered them or not. Or if you’re not sure how to order them.)
We will start the weekly Reading Log this week. I will send the worksheet home on Monday.

You can communicate with me via email or the “take home” folder. Just put your note on the “complete and return” side and I will see it. I will try to get back with you within 24 hours. Please clear out the “keep at home” side each day and check and sign the agenda each day!

Thank you so much for all the supplies. I feel truly blessed to be working here with parents who are involved and helpful and with an administration that enables us to succeed!
