Hi 4A parents,

I hope you had a relaxing 3-day weekend!

I want to remind you of these important dates coming up:

  • There will be a Spalding information night on Monday, September 12, at 6:00 in the MPR. Mrs. Clouse will be leading it.

  • There will be a Singapore Math information night on Thursday, September 22, at 6:00 in the MPR and Ms. Infantolino will be leading it.

We are continuing with geology, Pollyanna, and the Middle Ages. I’ve really enjoyed the discussions and thought-provoking questions that your inquisitive children have encouraged me and each other with. They are a joy to teach : )

I want to share a letter with you from our class parent liaison, Mrs. Stephenson:

Hello Parents of Mrs. Gore's 4th Grade Class!

I would like to introduce myself as your class parent liaison this year. My name is Mira Stephenson and this is our families 3rd year with Great Hearts.  My husband and I have two children here at Lincoln, Landon in 4th grade and Sydney in Kindergarten. Prior to exiting the workplace in 2007 I enjoyed career in Human Resources specializing in recruitment within the financial industry. There are a lot of fun and exciting events planned for 4th grade this year and parent involvement will be needed and greatly appreciated.

Important Fingerprint Clearance Information:

If any parents or family members are interested in doing any in class volunteering a Great Hearts fingerprint clearance needs to be on file with the front office. This includes all class celebrations, literature groups, field trips, etc. If you have any questions regarding this or need assistance, please let me know.

I'd like to keep the lines of communication open a much as possible so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or ideas. As the school year marches on I would love the assistance of other parents to help at events such as our annual read-a-thon, literature celebrations, field trips, etc. I'm available via phone, text, email at:
480-381-6339

I look forward to this year together!

All the best,
Mira Stephenson

  • We will be starting our literature groups this week and Mrs. Stephenson has set up a Sign Up Genius account for our parents to volunteer for a day to lead a group. The link is http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a45a8a62f4-literature  and is also on the upper right margin of the blog. The literature group is on Thursdays from 2:10-2:45 and is a time where a parent takes a group of about 6-8 students and listens to them read the chapter and asks comprehension questions along the way. If you are interested, please sign up.

Please make sure you are checking agendas each night. I will put in missing assignments for you to check. It is important to turn in all assignments even if they are late. A “1” is better than a “0”.
Your child has been and will continue to get returned assignments that have been graded (should be in their take-home folder), please look these over and discuss what, if anything, needs to be corrected. Mrs. Ryan and I put comments on papers we have graded, please have your child learn from them and make sure any questions for understanding and/or clarification get asked.

If your child gets a “C” or below on anything, I would like them to correct it for understanding and turn it back in the next day (asking any questions in the process). When this is completed they can gain back some points.

Thank You!
